reflection

The research I did on the samurai uniform has fed into my work similarly, in the Edo period samurai were protectors and warriors. This connotes to my work in the present, the character wearing the samurai uniform is a warrior, a protector. The best methods for research have been going in person to galleries and exhibitions showcasing these artefacts that way I’m getting visually stimulated instead of looking on a computer at home. I could expand my research by looking for the exact type of samurai it was as there where many different types of samurai during the Edo period.

My ideas have developed through the series of work I was doing, me looking at these artefacts to then draw them in different ways has given me time to change ideas and have a few trials and errors. The materials I'm interested in are water colour and inks just because I like how water can completely change the thickness and texture. I want to explore more artists that have that type of art.

My ideas don't really relate to my previous work as it had different themes and starter points. When thinking of a plotline I was very inspired, so much so that I planned ahead the character design. Things that are going well are the general ideas of where my animation is going to end up being on the contrary things that I could definitely improve on are my research, this is so that my knowledge about both the fan and the samurai can deepen the context of the animation.

The problems I've encountered are mainly me rushing and not taking my time creating sloppy looking sketches and pictures. Other than that, I'm very proud of what I have achieved so far. I have learnt many new things about myself and how I like to work such as working messy with a lot of materials and a free mind. In the future I think it's best if I type out my research as I don't tend to rush or skip over important statements. In the future I will develop my animation.
