Samurai-

Relating to the primer task i had picked two ‘objects’ randomly, these objects hand their own individual story’s to them. One was a samurai suit which now ill be researching more into since my story would either have to relate to this.

The samurai or bushi were warriors of japan, by the edo period they were practically ruling japan. Samurai lasted from 1185- 1868 with the strongest women and men being hired to be family protectors or even assassins. The reason for the samurai to eventually die out was because of a general peace within japan decreasing the need for martial arts and training.

Character design-

the type of character designs i want is a cartoonish style whilst also being visibly human, the first type of designs that came to mind was the studio Ghibli animations as they all had a general style that recognised human anatomy whilst still being a cartoon, in those animations the background designs are also detailed and realistic whilst being a cartoon.

After finding these references i delved deeper into the materials they used to create the designs including backgrounds. In a few Concept drawings there were some colours used, with further research i found out it was water colour. Water colour and acrylic was also used for the backgrounds of many studio Ghibli animations .now linking back to my own character design i would want to try out some watercolour to see how it effects the colour of the concept.
